Marc, loved the car post.

Robin - the waterproof case was delivered to my house today. Won't get to use it until next week.

Sue - great to hear from you. Yes, your California desert photos were stunning. I'll be using my A720 for the rest of this trip, it looks like. My S5 IS just jammed (the lens) today. It ran out of power and couldn't retract the lens, and I think it stripped its gears trying. I'm kinda bummed, but glad to have the 720 to come off the bench.

Hi Phil, haven't looked at your blog for a while and, while procrastinating from my deadline, I decided to have a look. It's nice catching up with you. I bought a 720 IS last year just before we went to Japan and I love it. I have a PowerShot A80 before that. I like its size - the Ixus that many people seem to get is just too small for me. I do miss the flip out screen of the A80 though. I have by no means mastered all the functionality but every thing I try comes out well - we were really pleased with the Joshua Tree and Anza Borrego wildflowers. My best wildflower photos to date! The standard batteries are great though I do find that it starts to complain pretty quickly about batteries being low, and then keeps on going for about as long again! Anyhow, thought I'd just pop in and say hello...

PS Hannah is back - happy and sad at the same time - and is now wondering whether she'll go OS again for post-grad studies, but who knows? That's a year and a half away.

Nice new camera, Phil. The optical zoom looks good. It'll be great to see what you'll be able to photograph when you're out kayaking. Such fun awaits you!
