Wreck We Am

OK, whatever sport you pick, I guess we’re the Washington Generals and they (Florida) are the Globetrotters. This was probably the turning point of the game:
Our guys never gave up despite being pummelled by a constant rain of 3-point baskets - think the battle scene in Braveheart where the English are showering the battlefield with arrows.
The rain held off, so I decided to walk home from the sports bar - up Queen Anne Hill, down to Fremont, back uphill to Chez Perils. It was a crisp spring night, with a full moon rising, and these sights served to soothe my mood:
Sorry things didn’t turn out like you like, but hey — you got some fun and drinks, as well as some nice photos!
There’s always next year, right?
Now that it’s over, I confess my ambivalence when these two state schools compete against each other.
Florida and Ohio: two states that can field winning college sports teams but can’t run legitimate presidential elections. And a good part of the nation devoting more attention to the one pursuit than the other.
So how ’bout those Mariners? Sounds like Felix Hernandez got you off to a great start.
Nice funeral.
-sigh-
Catch you next year.
And Marcia has the right idea. It’s baseball season!
Our sympathies, Phil. We thought of you when we heard the news.
we thought of you while we weren’t watching the game. sorry about that. clever post tho.
Well, dang, I should have thought to pick your brains about those night photo skills too, Phil. Beautiful stuff. Lousy game outcome though. Better luck next year!
Imp, it’s always better to gather with the similarly afflicted. I met some fun folks.
Marcia, college sports isn’t about politics, it’s about educating our children.
Kathy, I got to the bar early enough to catch a few innings of the Mariner’s game. Richie Sexton is on track to hit 162 home runs. Ha! I’ve never become a Mariners’ fan, and I’m too far removed from Detroit to maintain my Tigers’ allegiance.
Roger & Robin - thanks. I’ve done this enough times to be able to self-administer my grief counseling.
Carroll - I just the other day found how to manually adjust the ISO. Have a great trip.
If I were a sports fan, I’d empathize better. That notwithstanding, I am having modest success in empathizing and hope you can look to the certain win next year to boost your spirits.
Beautiful photos, Phil, as always! Now that I live in the hinterlands of New Mexico, I see your cascade of steel and light and it looks alien, otherworldly. Around here a big sight would be watching Mrs. Sterling’s cat chase the Romero’s pitbull - you might even see a cow doing somethin’ other than sleepin’ and eatin’ and poopin’ if you’re lucky!
I came across your website/blog today when I googled “Frank Menichetti” and I just had to say “bravo” on a very entertaining website/blog. The reason why I googled him was because he was the former band director for Fremont Ross High School back in the late 70’s when my sister went there. By the time I had reached high school he had retired and the school had been blessed with 2 more great band directors. I do remember how the students would regard to him as Fremont’s “Arthur Fiedler”. Your blog really touched me and I’m going to forward the link to my sister. Also, I now have you in my favorites because I never laughed so hard at a person’s daily adventures (ESPECIALLY A PERSON I DON’T EVEN KNOW OR HAVE MET, BY THE WAY) in my entire life. Too bad about OSU. I live in New York City now, but I’m still a die-hard BUCKS fan!!! Thanks for a daily smile!
Hi, Beth, thanks for stopping. I’d be interested to hear how Frank was regarded at Fremont Ross. His daughter and granddaughter both found (independently of each other) that blog entry, and dropped me nice notes.
If it makes you feel any better I hate Florida, probably has something to do with the 2000 election and that they knocked dear old GMU out of the semis in last year’s Final Four.
